“The more you learn, the more you realize you do not know.”
- Angie Wolpert, 4th Grade
I am originally from Radford, VA. My husband’s name is Dave, and we have been married for almost 30 years. We have two children, Luke (25) and Abby (24), and a new daughter-in-law, Amber. Luke and Amber were married this past summer.
I heard about an opening at Faith Christian School just as I was finishing my teacher licensure. I was able to visit for a day and observe many teachers. I knew that the style of learning was different from anything I had ever seen, and I knew it was good. I wished I had been given the same education. So, I began teaching at Faith Christian School in 2008.
What post-secondary schools did you attend? Degrees held?
I have a BA degree from Radford University, and I attended Regent University in Virginia Beach where I majored in Public Policy/Journalism. I earned my teaching license from the University of Virginia.
What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of the school?
I love going for walks and taking as many trips to Pawley’s Island each year as I can. I also love reading, especially historical fiction and anything related to C.S. Lewis.
What or who inspired you to work in education?
I first wanted to be a teacher when I had my own children and enjoyed making a plan for them each day. We did something academic, something artistic, spent time socializing with neighbors, and read books.
Why do you love Faith Christian School or what do you appreciate most about Faith Christian School?
I love fellowship with Christian co-workers, the spiritual growth that happens at Faith Christian School, and the happiness that I feel each day when I see my students. They allow me to set aside the typical worries of life and experience the joy that always happens when I am around children.
What do you find most compelling or distinct about Christian classical education?
I love that students are learning how to think, speak, and write well. As a teacher, I appreciate how much I have learned and how my training has changed me and helped me become a life-long learner.
If you have a personal life's mission statement, what is it? If not, how might you describe what you feel called to as a believer?
I feel like God has called me to teach children good things and to point them to Christ in all that they do.
If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?
Lately, this verse helped me very much when I needed to ask God for great things: “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” - Matthew 7:9-11
