Student Success Resources | FCS Blog Header

This blog post shares the many resources Faith Christian School provides to families to help make sure each and every student is successful. Make sure to save this list to refer to in the future, since it ranges in resources from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Bookbags, check. Lunchboxes, check. Uniforms, check. School supplies list, double check.

In the midst of all the back-to-school preparation and list-checking (and double-checking), we’ve compiled, below, a list of all the resources Faith Christian School makes available to help all our students have a successful year.

Student Support - Faith Christian School has two student support staff roles. These staff members can provide focused tutoring and coordinate support as needed. To find out more information, contact Kristan Brown.

Student Government Association (SGA) - Starting in Middle School, each grade elects one or two class representatives to the SGA. While parents might not initially see how the SGA provides for their student's future success, it becomes more obvious as they take on leadership responsibilities. The SGA allows students to participate in leadership opportunities, develop as leaders among leaders, and hone their communication and rhetoric skills which prepare them for successful leadership positions beyond school.

Math Tutoring - Mrs. Overton is available for math tutoring on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:15 PM until 4:15 PM. Parents may sign their students up by clicking here.

Veritas Tutoring - The Veritas Honor Society (link) provides tutoring to lower grades on a variety of subjects as a part of their responsibilities. When younger students learn from older students bonds are formed that encourage the younger students to give their best. Older students also benefit as their leadership and communication skills are developed, which prepares them for college and career opportunities.

Veritas Buddies - In addition to tutoring for lower grades, each Veritas member becomes a "buddy" to a 6th grader, helping to smooth the way for the changes that are often a bit daunting to a middle-schooler. The Veritas Honor Society exemplifies how Faith Christian School encourages interaction between the different grades, benefitting our entire school community.

Study Skills Class - In addition to the normal load of courses, each 6th-grade student will have an additional Study Skills Class (this year, it will be taught by none other than Tess Jones!). This course will help students reinforce the foundation already laid in the Lower School. Each student will be challenged to further institute layers of excellent study habits and success skills in preparation for the academic rigors of Upper School and college.

(Middle & Upper School) Grade-Level Advisors - In both upper and middle school, each grade has a male and female advisor. Each group of students meets with their assigned advisor for spiritual guidance, team-building activities, and bonding as friends. These advisors also meet one-on-one with students as needed.

The Dean of Students, Zachary Virgin, provides oversight for the advisors and provides one-on-one advising as needed. He, along with Karen Goodman (the female senior class advisor), mentors each Senior student in their senior year.

College & Career Counseling - Starting in 9th grade, Kathy Habeeb, begins to counsel students in a balanced approach toward college and career goals. She helps them prepare for standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT, AP tests, and CLT. Additionally, Mrs. Habeeb leads the students through all steps in preparing to apply for college, such as preparing a resume, writing quality college essays, researching various college options, and more, She provides one-on-one assistance to guide both students and parents through the college admission process.

Motor Lab - Students in the Lower School participate in Motor Lab one day a week in our newly furnished complete motor lab! This lab provides opportunities for students to work on fine and gross motor skills that help them be prepared to learn. Research suggests that many academic struggles stem from physical deficiencies in motor skills. This lab is based on research by Athena Oden, P.T., and follows her curriculum, Ready Bodies, Learning Minds. For more information visit her website https://readybodieslearningminds.com/motorlab/
