Shannon Nunnally | Faith Christian School Life

Rooted in Joy and Purpose: Meet Shannon Nunnally

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am married to Will and a mother of three adult children: Adam, Logan, and Madeline. I am a passionate follower of Jesus and an active member of my church. I attend Fellowship Community Church in Salem, and I enjoy volunteering in the nursery and mentoring young mothers.

What post-secondary schools did you attend? Degrees held?

Bluefield College: Bachelor of Science, Christian Ministry Degree
Mary Baldwin University: Post Graduate Elementary Education

Have you taught or been involved in schools somewhere else prior to FCS? If so, where, and how long?

I taught second grade at FCS for almost 10 years. Prior to teaching at FCS, I worked at Fort Lewis Elementary as a tutor, Instructional Assistant, and Student Teacher.

What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of the school?

My passions are reading, walking, and paddle-boarding in the summer.

What or who inspired you to work in education?

I have loved working with children since I was in middle school. Once my children started school, I was active in volunteering at their school, which quickly led to getting a second degree in education.

What do you find most compelling or distinct about Christian classical education?

The most compelling aspect that I have experienced in Christian classical education is the emphasis on the glorification of God and His beauty, truth, and goodness. Secondly, I appreciate the focus on the development of a child’s character as viewed through a Christian worldview and teaching them a love for learning.

What do you love about the idea of teaching at Faith Christian School, or what do you anticipate appreciating most about Faith Christian School?

Having worked at FCS previously, the community and staff are truly a gift from the Lord. I am so humbled to be able to be part of such a wonderful community. Additionally, I am eager to work with the children to instill a love for God and learning.

What's a favorite book you've read?

Choosing one book is difficult because I love reading a variety of genres. However, my favorite fiction book is To Kill a Mockingbird.

How many books do you have stacked on your bedside table or in your "To Read" pile?

I currently have three fiction books and two devotionals in my “To Read” pile.

If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?

My life verse is Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

If you have a personal life's mission statement, what is it?

My personal mission statement is the phrase “Choose Joy.” I wear a bracelet with those words as a daily reminder to "Choose Joy" in every circumstance.
