Over the years, we have served the Rescue Mission, Mill Mountain Park and Zoo, Roanoke Valley Greenway, Jefferson Center, Explore Park, and Camp Alta Mons, just to name a few. Over 53 organizations have been served over the years.
Faith Christian School will be celebrating Project Faith's 22nd year of service to our community this year!
Project Faith is Faith Christian School's only school-wide fundraiser. On the last Friday in April, the entire school serves a local organization. Projects such as painting, mulching, organizing, and even small building projects are tackled on this day.
Money raised from the day of service helps bridge the gap between tuition and the actual costs of running the school. To put this in the simplest terms, Project Faith funds salaries and benefits for approximately three teachers.
Over the years, we have served the Rescue Mission, Mill Mountain Park and Zoo, Roanoke Valley Greenway, Jefferson Center, Explore Park, and Camp Alta Mons, just to name a few. Over 53 organizations have been served in the last 21 years.
This year, we are blessed to be able to serve Apple Ridge Farm, a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of our community's underserved children and families. Through academic support and outdoor activities, Apple Ridge Farm brings the Roanoke area's children to their camp for a week of life-changing experiences.
Approximately four months prior to the day of service, volunteers will plan, and plan some more, and then plan some more until they are ready when the students arrive on site. In addition, beginning in January, students will write letters asking for support on the day of service. Last year, 4,000 letters were mailed to friends, family, and businesses. In addition, around 24 students are selected as Project Faith Student Leaders (see last year's below).
Families and friends contributing to Project Faith often comment on what a privilege it is to support such a worthwhile organization and the students serving on this day. We also hear many comments saying thank you for not asking to buy wrapping paper and candy.
Students design t-shirts for Project Faith that everyone wears on that day. These shirts list our corporate sponsors, who are instrumental in their giving and support. Last year, over $40k was raised in corporate sponsorships.
Including corporate sponsorships, $150,000 was raised from Project Faith last year. Over $2.8 million dollars has been raised since Project Faith began.
In addition, during the last 21 years, over 55,000 hours of volunteer hours have been served by almost 8,000 volunteers.
Project Faith is one way Faith Christian gives back to the community. The day is a blessing to our school, our families, and those we serve.
