Morning assembly at Faith Christian School sets a positive tone for the day, blending fun, learning, and school spirit through interactive challenges, games, and weekly vocabulary activities. It also fosters spiritual growth and fellowship with daily devotionals, prayer, hymn singing, and reciting the school’s Vision Statement, reflecting the school’s mission of joyfully combining faith and academics.

Most people would agree that the best day starts with a slow morning and a warm cup of coffee. Morning Assembly is like the cup of coffee before a successful day at Faith Christian School. This gathering of the entire Middle and Upper School provides a gentle warm-up for the academics to come and a positive framework for the day.

What could easily become a dull and monotonous presentation of announcements is actually an engaging and entertaining assembly. For example, we present a vocabulary-building word each week. To make morning assembly interactive for students, teachers often plan immersive challenges, riddles, jokes, and games. One such challenge, planned by FCS’s Student Government Association, was a gift-wrapping competition. To inspire a festive spirit for the holiday season, ten students were selected to wrap a gift in thirty seconds while a few teachers judged the results. Even first thing in the morning, students and teachers alike were able to laugh and cheer together in school spirit.

Beyond the challenges and fun, morning assembly is also a time of spiritual development and fellowship. Members of Fides, the school’s Spiritual Development Club, prepare and present a 2-3 minute devotional every morning. After the devotion, we hold a time of silent prayer where we personally take time to pray for ourselves and the needs of others (such as praying for a different local school each week). After prayer, we sing a hymn or worship song together. For the past several years, the entire student body has learned several hymns in four-part harmony, such as the Doxology, Holy, Holy, Holy, and more. (Click here to listen to us singing together!) We end our assembly by reciting our Vision Statement. To the question, “Warriors, to what do we aspire?” we reply, “To have a Mind for Truth, a Heart for Christ, and a Will to Serve.”

Just as a cup of coffee sets the tone for the day, morning assembly sets the standard for the rest of our day and encompasses the important values at Faith Christian School. With fun, learning, and worship, morning assembly mirrors Faith Christian School’s mission of encouraging joy while studying the classics.
