"I have always felt a connection with Faith Christian School as a recipient of Project Faith through three different organizations. During these events, I experienced the love and light of Christ while working with the staff, faculty, and students of Faith Christian School. "
- Amy Milberger, Director of Development
What post-secondary schools did you attend? Degrees held?
I graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a degree in Visual Communication and Marketing.
What is your background prior to joining FCS?I started my career as an illustrator and creative director at Productive Sales Promotions in Pittsburgh, PA. My interest in education led me to become a graphic design/marketing instructor and program director at Pittsburgh Technical Institute. After having my first child, I decided to focus on being a full-time homemaker and mom. Once settled into this new role, I began offering part-time freelance and pro-bono design and marketing services to local non-profits. This introduced me to the non-profit world, and for the past 24 years, I have had the privilege of working with and serving nonprofit organizations that have made a significant impact on our community. It has been an honor and a blessing.
What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of the school?
Art, gardening, cooking, exercise, and spending time with my family are among my most favorite things to do outside of serving at Faith Christian School.
What do you love about the idea of working at Faith Christian School or what do you anticipate appreciating most about Faith Christian School?
I have always felt a connection with Faith Christian School as a recipient of Project Faith through three different organizations. During these events, I experienced the love and light of Christ while working with the staff, faculty, and students of Faith Christian School. What struck me even more was how my colleagues were impacted by this experience, stating, "There’s something different about those kids…staff…people." I observed this powerful testimony on every occasion and always desired to be part of such a witness. I am also deeply passionate about education and consider myself a lifelong learner. I am particularly drawn to the classical Christian model, and I am moved by how it emphasizes the cultivation of our youth’s curiosity, encourages exploration and questioning, and nurtures a love for art and nature while integrating these into all subjects.
What has stood out to you since you have been introduced to your position?
The kind, welcoming, and hardworking culture has really moved me since I’ve been introduced to this position. I have also been significantly impressed by the youth that I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with. They exhibit a kind and peaceful confidence.
What are some of the books that impacted you and how? What's a favorite book you've read?
I find it difficult not to state that the Bible has been the most impactful book in my life. It moves me, teaches me, convicts me, and comforts me daily. The book of Hebrews has always been particularly meaningful to me. I have stacks of books next to my bed and on bookshelves throughout my home, and I tend to have several in progress. I have fond memories of reading The Chronicles of Narnia, Nancy Drew, and the Hardy Boys to my children and will often pick them up to recreate those moments.
If you have a "life verse" or a verse that has been meaningful to you, what might it be?
Like color and music, I don't have a favorite Bible verse. Many seem perfectly curated by God at the right time for the right reason.
My husband and I have reflected on these two often this past year:
“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes.” 1 Samuel 12:16
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
If you have a personal life-mission statement, what is it?
My personal life statement is – “try your best to act in love – be patient and kind, don’t envy or boast. Don’t dishonor others or be prideful or selfish. Be slow to anger and forget about hurts. Don’t delight in evil. Rejoice in truth! Always protect, trust, hope and persevere.”
