"Christian classical education is unique and wonderful because it understands that our primary goal is not to cram our students with facts or prepare them for careers, but to shape their hearts and souls, to teach them human virtues..."
- Emmie Lo, Latin Teacher

I graduated from Davidson College with a BA in Classical Languages and Literature in 2022 and taught middle and high school Latin full-time for two years at Saint John’s Classical Academy in Fleming Island, Florida. I am the second oldest of seven, and I am totally blind. I read Braille and use a cane, and my computer talks to me.

What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of the school?

I love to read and write fiction and poetry. I also play piano and guitar by ear, sing, and write songs. I love long walks and deep conversations with family and friends, and I am always ready and willing to travel, experience new places, and try new things. I have a deep and abiding passion for drinking tea.

What or who inspired you to work in education?

I was inspired by my love of Latin and literature, my frustration with the broken public education system and how it is failing students and the many great teachers and professors I was blessed to have while in school.

What do you find most compelling or distinct about Christian classical education?

Christian classical education is unique and wonderful because it understands that our primary goal is not to cram our students with facts or prepare them for careers, but to shape their hearts and souls, to teach them human virtues, so they can more fully live out their calling as image-bearers of Christ and citizens of God’s kingdom. Christian classical education is uniquely able to cultivate the whole person because it knows the truth of who and what human beings were made for.

What do you love about the idea of teaching at Faith Christian School or what do you anticipate appreciating most about Faith Christian School?

When I visited Faith Christian School, I got the sense that the faculty and students love being there, and I’m excited to be a part of that engaged, enthusiastic community. I’m also very much looking forward to having smaller class sizes.

What's a favorite book you've read?

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

How many books do you have stacked on your bedside table or in your "To Read" pile?

The list of books I still haven’t read and want to read is hundreds of books long. I’m almost finished reading The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky and completely enraptured by it, so I think going forward I want to read more Russian literature.

If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?

During this season of my life and its many transitions and uncertainties, I am taking comfort in Psalm 94:22: “But the Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge.”

If you have a personal life's mission statement, what is it?

Love God, love people, live a beautiful life.
