What post-secondary schools did you attend? Degrees held?

The College of William and Mary – B.A. History & Art History
The University of Virginia – M.T. Secondary, Social Studies

Have you taught or been involved in schools somewhere else prior to FCS? If so, where, and how long?

I’m rather peripatetic. I’ve taught in Albemarle County, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, and Salem for a total of 6 years.

What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of the school?

I enjoy all time spent outside: walking, hiking, sitting by the lake, etc. I also like indoor rock climbing and crafting. I’m practicing calligraphy at the moment!

What or who inspired you to work in education?

I felt inspired to work in education from my time on the Youth Ministries Team with the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, and also as a young child participating in Odyssey of the Mind competitions.

What's your favorite book you've read?

My answer usually changes based on the last book I read, and the trend continues. I just finished The Screwtape Letters, and wow, just, wow.

How many books do you have stacked on your bedside table or in your "To Read" pile?

Shoot, a single stack doesn’t behoove flipping between books. I’ve got 8 books in my deconstructed stack, 4 of which I am currently reading.

What do you find most compelling or distinct about Christian classical education?

From everything I’ve learned this summer, a classical Christian education is about slowing down, savoring, and delighting in the presence of the Lord. It’s about living well and loving God. Could we aspire to more?

What do you love about the idea of teaching at Faith Christian School or what do you anticipate appreciating most about Faith Christian School?

I love that at Faith Christian School, I get to prioritize depth over breadth. We forget so much content by the time we age out of school, so I’m delighted to get to place a greater emphasis on nurturing my students to think deeply and live a life devoted to Christ.

If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?

In youth ministries, we used to sing Philippians 4:13. I remember little else of the (non-scriptural) lyrics, but I’ll just sing that one verse on repeat.

If you have a personal life’s mission statement, what is it?

My life’s mission is to understand and cultivate understanding in others.
