The Garland Family shares why they chose Faith Christian School
and what they love most about our community.
We started our son in JK days after moving back to the Roanoke area in 2019. I was going through all the difficult emotions a mom goes through in anticipation of a firstborn going to school…and growing up. We explored a couple of options because, as a homeschool graduate,
I leaned toward that method while my husband, who graduated from public school, leaned toward that approach. We both wanted him thinking and exploring and even making mistakes, but learning from them. I wanted the outdoors of a forest school, the rigors of a private
education, and the freedom to ask questions.
When I met the Junior Kindergarten teacher and talked to Peter Baur, they made it clear that exploration, outdoors, and learning to ask good questions were vital to the curriculum. I was sold.
That, and I saw the third-graders quietly get to their lunch table on their own, eat without much supervision, and clean up their own messes. I wanted that level of mature independence for our children.
As of Fall 2024, we’ve been a part of the Faith Christian School community for 6 years. Our son is in 4th grade, learning and growing with a group of friends I’ve no doubt he’ll keep for life. Our daughter is also thriving in second grade as she is encouraged academically, spiritually, and in particular, artistically. We admire the teachers’ experience and enthusiasm, which translates into our children loving to learn. We are continually reminded of the level of academics. We have developed deep relationships with other parents in an authentically caring community. We feel supported by the administration in a partnership that embraces our children as God’s image-bearers. We highly recommend the investment of an education at Faith Christian School.
