Evan Grey | FCS Staff

“I desire to serve others so they would ultimately see more of God's lovingkindness found in Christ and the gospel.” - Evan Grey

Have you taught or been involved in schools somewhere else prior to FCS? If so, where, and how long?

I taught 6th-grade science for 3 years in Montgomery County Public Schools (Auburn Middle School), as well as 7th-grade science for the last 2 years in Roanoke City Public Schools (James Breckinridge Middle School).

What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of the school?

I enjoy golfing, playing board games, watching musicals with my wife, and using my barbecue smoker.

What post-secondary schools did you attend? Degrees held?

Robert Morris University (2012-2014)

Radford University (2014- 2017), Bachelor of Science in Biology

Currently enrolled in BRITE (Blue Ridge Institute of Theological Education) for MDiv.

What or who inspired you to work in education?

I can’t say there has been a particular person (though I have had many great teachers in my life, and it runs in my family to some degree), but I have always had the desire to some extent to teach, especially during my time in college. Since becoming a Christian, I have felt more and more the need for godly examples for the youth in the context of education, and I am thankful that the Lord has put me in a position to strive to be that for His glory.

What's your favorite book you've read?

A Praying Life by Paul Miller

How many books do you have stacked on your bedside table or in your "To Read" pile?

Too many to count! (Washington by Ron Chernow, The Works of Thomas Watson, and Charles Spurgeon’s Lectures To My Students, to name a few)

What do you find most compelling or distinct about Christian classical education?

What I find most compelling about Christian classical education is the dynamic of school not being separated from the sacred, but being very much a part of God’s design and desire for His creation. The way we learn reflects God’s glory, and so does the way we teach. Christian classical education, I believe, deals with the whole human and aims to cultivate genuine hearts of worship to God in life, and glorifying Him in learning and teaching.

What do you love about the idea of teaching at Faith Christian School or what do you anticipate appreciating most about Faith Christian School?

Spending the previous 5 years of teaching in a public school setting where there are certainly open doors to be a gospel light and have spiritual conversations with students and staff, though very limited and guarded, I am very excited and feel that I will most appreciate being able to more freely and explicitly encourage others to Christ in my teaching and interactions!

If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? - Romans 8:32

If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?

The prayer of Abraham’s chief servant to God when he set out to find Isaac a wife: “O Lord, the God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today, and show lovingkindness to my master Abraham.” (Genesis 24:12) I desire in life to serve others around me successfully so that they would ultimately see more of God’s lovingkindness, which is found in Christ and the gospel!
