Aubrey Lynch | Faith Christian School Life

Meet Aubrey Lynch:

Faith, Volleyball, and a Heart for Mentorship

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am originally from Houston, Texas, and moved to Roanoke in 2021 with my parents. I am 24 years old, graduated with a B.A. in Health and Exercise Science and a minor in Religious Studies from Roanoke College in 2024. I am currently in graduate school, pursuing my Master's in Occupational Therapy at Radford University Carilion.

What post-secondary schools did you attend? Degrees held?

I began coaching at Faith in the fall of 2023.

Please briefly describe your journey to Faith Christian School and what attracted you to the school.

I had the opportunity to play volleyball in college at a high level. As I learned more about the sport and became more passionate, I was able to reflect on my own journey playing and realized the impact that a good coach had on my experience and mindset. After I decided to step away from playing in college, I reached out to one of my former coaches, Tom Houser, who lives in the Roanoke area, to see if he knew of any schools looking for a coach. When he shared Faith’s name and mission with me, it immediately piqued my interest!

Where else have you coached prior to FCS?

I lived in Northern Virginia for 12 years (specifically Stafford, VA). When I played travel sports, my coaches would host developmental camps and would have me lead them. I also worked at an all-girls Christian summer camp in Texas (Camp Mystic) for 5 years, where I coached about 50-100 girls aged 8-18 each summer. I currently help Tom Houser a lot, where I have led clinics and private lessons.

What are your hobbies or things you enjoy outside of coaching??

I do not have a ton of free time right now, balancing school and work, but when possible, I love playing in my adult volleyball league (RVVA), which I have been a part of for the past 3 years. I also love anything outdoors, whether that is hiking, swimming, kayaking, or just enjoying the fresh air. I love photography and take photos as a hobby. I paint when I can and love spending as much time with my dogs, Luna and Shepard.

If you have a "life verse" or a verse that is ministering to you right now, what might it be?

Ever since I was in high school, my life verse has been Romans 8:18-19: “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” I actually saw this written on a wall when I was on a mission trip, and it immediately spoke to me. Throughout all ups and downs in my life, this verse has helped me see that there is a greater purpose for everything. Instead of looking at the situation as it is, consider how the Lord is using you through it.

If you have a personal life's mission statement, what is it? If not, how might you describe what you feel called to as a believer?

My main mission statement is to live like God through everything I do and say. I know I will never be perfect and sinless, as that is impossible. I hope to live my life in a way that reflects Him through unconditionally loving everyone I interact with, providing hope to others whenever they need someone, and just embodying His presence and grace.

I am looking forward to being part of a school community that openly allows Christ to be at the center of its education. I love that my children will be a part of this community!

Why do you love Faith Christian School, or what do you appreciate most about Faith Christian School and the athletes?

Faith Christian has been such an incredible experience for me as a coach and as a person. Each athlete that I have been blessed to coach has helped me in more ways than they know. All of these students are rooted in the Lord and lean on Him through it all. It is genuinely an incredible thing to see and be a part of. I am so grateful that, as a coach, I am able to incorporate my Christianity in every practice and game, reminding players that there is a greater purpose to how we all are living. The parents of the players are all so supportive and encouraging of their kids, which makes me, as a coach, even more grateful for this opportunity. I am beyond blessed to call Faith home.
